Riverside Painting Session

Friday, October 17th, 2003

Thanks to Scott Davis, Jim Pokorney, Brett Reese, Dan Bergeson, Nina Mukherji and friend for painting on Saturday, October 11. We only got in about an hour of work due to rain, but we managed to first coat forty feet of fence on the east side of the Cannon River in Downtown Northfield between 3rd St. and 5th St.

We plan to put a second coat on this Saturday, October 18. This will be the last opportunity to work on this project this year. Well see how the paint survives the winter and determine if we need to use a different type of paint or prepare the surface differently. Next spring well continue the painting and paint the Riverwalk railing all the way to 2nd St.

The work on 10/18 will last from 10am until 2pm. Those who are interested should plan to work a one- or two-hour shift.

Thanks to Randy Peterson and Roger Ness of the Public Works Department for making the equipment and supplies available and trusting us with this work.

Next Painting Session

Monday, October 6th, 2003

We will plan on meeting Saturday, October 11 by the Ames Mill dam at
noon and paint until 4pm. We are looking for folks to volunteer for
two hour shifts, 12-2 or 2-4. Please send a message to either Dan Bergeson or Scott Davis if you’re able to help out.

Action Squad plan

Friday, October 3rd, 2003

The NDDC Action Squad has put together a plan to assist the City in
painting some of the ironwork along the river in Downtown Northfield.
We will be using citizen volunteers and city-supplied equipment to do
this work.

We have our first volunteer gig lined up for this Saturday, October 4th
from 12-4 p.m., weather permitting. We’ve volunteered to paint the
ironwork along the river from 5th to 2nd:
fencing, stair railings, river wall railings (excluding bridgerailings).

The City will supply us with paint, brushes, rollers, buckets, and
ladders as needed. If all goes well, we’ll repeat this plan on
October 11 and 18. It’ll probably be too cold to paint outside after
the 18th.

We hope to have at least 8-12 people each Saturday. We’re counting on you!

Next NDDC Meeting

Thursday, October 2nd, 2003

The Northfield Downtown Development Corporation (NDDC) will hold its
Monthly General Meeting at 8am, Tuesday, October 7, in the Conference
Room of the Archer House in Downtown Northfield. Brian O’Connell,
Northfield’s new Community Development Director, will be the guest
speaker at the meeting. Mr. O’Connell joined City staff on
September 2, 2003. This will be a great opportunity to find out what
some of his goals and strategies will be in the coming months as they
pertain to Downtown Northfield. There will be time after Mr.
O’Connell’s remarks for questions.

The meeting will open with a brief report on the recent activities of
the NDDC Board of Directors. This will be followed by updates from
the three issue-oriented committees of the NDDC: Downtown Economic
Viability (the Action Squad), Downtown Arts, Culture, and Recreation,
and Downtown Economic Expansion and Redevelopment.

The NDDC Monthly General Meeting is held on the first Tuesday of the
month. It is free and open to the public.

For further information on the NDDC, contact Executive Director Ross
Currier at 663-0319.

Hello, and welcome to the new website for the NDDC. Though it may not look a lot different, the new site is much improved: allowing for various NDDC members to easily post updates at any time. So come back often!…there’s sure to be something new almost every time you make a visit to nddc.org.
