Naked Bicyclists Protest Lack of Bike Racks

Friday, April 28th, 2006

Once again, not really. I searched for an image to illustrate my announcement of Bring Your Bike Downtown, what I found was bike protests.

I think these protests must be in California, not Minnesota. So Bring Your Bike Downtown, as part of the Chamber Retail Committee’s Spring Fling, Saturday, May 6th at 10 am in “The Jacobsen Parking Lot”. Your bike will get you entered in a drawing for prizes and we’ll help raise awareness of bike-friendliness in downtown.

…and don’t worry, all of the NDDC Staff Members, Board Members and Community Advisors will be fully clothed.

NDDC Sponsors Radical Extremist Group

Thursday, April 27th, 2006

The Outside Dining Liberation Front? Not really. However, we are restarting the conversation about outside dining in Northfield and encouraging our city’s leaders to implement a long term plan on this topic…like they have been doing for years in nearby Red Wing.

On Tuesday, May 2nd, the NDDC Monthly Forum will bring both sides of the outside dining debate together for some real dialogue. Join us at 8 am in the Archer House Riverview Conference Room. Coffee and cookies will be served.

Locally Grown Returns to KRLX for Dog Park Discussion

Saturday, April 22nd, 2006

Here I am conducting further research for the EDA on creative concepts in economic development. My on-going analysis leads to a suggestion on combining the dog park, YMCA, liquor store, swimming pool and the Q Block on the latest edition of Locally Grown. Check it out as Griff Wigley, Tracy Davis, Morgan Weiland and I are joined in the KRLX studio (via telephone) by Rick Estenson to talk about the Dog Park, 1306 and the recently released report on the proposed Library Expansion.

NDDC Film Festival was a Success

Friday, April 21st, 2006

Hey Bardwell–we finally pulled it off, a film festival in downtown Northfield. Nothing on the order of the Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival or the Tribeca Film Festival (both start tonight) or even the Fargo Film Festival (we don’t have a 17 story building in town that we can use as a screen), but three wonderful views of Northfield issues, people and events on film and disc. Last night the Grand Event Center became a movie theater again like the old days. No popcorn or Slow Pokes this time, but good entertainment nonetheless (and actually, Chuck Pryor’s shrimp and meatballs were awfully good substitutes).
