NO Downtown Forum August 4th, YES Downtown Forum August 11th

BarbMatz_CorneredThere will be NOT be an NDDC Downtown Forum on Tuesday, August 4th.  There WILL be an NDDC Downtown Forum on Tuesday, August 11th.

The Forum has been bumped from the first Tuesday to the second Tuesday for a better link to the Sixth Annual ArtSwirl.  For additional information, see the ArtSwirl website.

On Tuesday, August 11th, there will be a Downtown Forum featuring a panel of four local artists discussing “Living the Artist’s Life in Northfield”.  Watch for more details, coming soon.

Thursday, July 30th, it’s Machen Musik, 8 to 11 p.m., The Tavern Lounge, riverside of the historic Archer House, and Study Hall (featuring local geniuses Peter Lynn, Terry VanDeWalker, and Peter Diggins), the Contented Cow.

Friday, July 31st, it’s me and Lance and Justin (New Moon Trio) with Athena joining us for the second set, 5:30 to 8:00 p.m., the Contented Cow, Lonesome Dan Kase, 7 to 11 p.m., The Tavern Lounge, Karaoke, 9 p.m., the Rueb’N'Stein, and Town Rill Folk Blues at the Contented Cow. (more…)

Butch Thompson Kicks Off Jazz Festival

ButchThompson_c1970sNorthfield will host its First Annual Jazz Festival Friday, August 14 and Saturday, August 15 as part of the community’s ArtSwirl, held annually to celebrate the proliferation of the arts in our community.

The Jazz Festival kicks-off in high style on Friday, August 14 at 7:30 p.m. with a very special performance by Butch Thompson and his All Stars, (Butch Thompson, piano; Kim Cusack, clarinet; Charlie DeVore, cornet; Bill Evans, trombone; Steve Pikal, bass; and Tom Andrews, drums). Well known for his long tenure on American Public Media’s very popular “A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor,” Thompson is considered the premier traditional jazz pianist in America today. The performance will be held in Northfield’s historic Grand Theater. Doors open one hour prior to the show and tickets ($10 adults/$6 students) will be available at the door. (more…)

ArtSwirlAdThe Sixth Annual ArtSwirl Celebration of the Arts will be held Thursday August 13th through Sunday August 16th.

This year’s event includes a family-friendly kick-off in Bridge Square with Kids’ Art Activities and Savage Aural Hotbed on Thursday, a Downtown Studio/Gallery Crawl and Butch Thompson and his All Stars at The Grand on Friday, (more…)
