Shop 4 Art – ArtSwirl Saturday Afternoon

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

Shop4ArtNorthfield is fortunate to have so many unique retail shops.  In fact, there are a number of stores in our community where you can find locally-designed and hand-crafted goods 52 weeks a year.

The NDDC’s Sixth Annual ArtSwirl seeks to recognize and celebrate these special shops.  On Saturday, August 15th, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., we’re encouraging people to Shop 4 Art in Downtown Northfield. (more…)

Downtown Gallery Crawl & Studio Tour – ArtSwirl Friday Night

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

GalleryRowI’ve long contended that, pound for pound, Northfield compares favorably with any “Art Town”.  Next Friday, August 14th, from 4 to 8 p.m., you can see for yourself.

The NDDC’s 6th Annual ArtSwirl will highlight the community’s rich offering of visual arts with a Downtown Gallery Crawl and Studio Tour.  All of the galleries and many of the studios in downtown Northfield will open their doors to the public to show off their art. (more…)

Shakespeare in the Park is Way Cool

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

Midsummer3Shakespeare in the Park is one of my all-time favorite Northfield cultural events, especially if Norman Butler has a role in it. One year they had a play by some french guy;  I’m glad they’ve gone back to the British Bard with a Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Thursday, August 8th, it’s the Key West Rejects at the Tavern Lounge (riverside of the Archer House) and Study Hall at the Contented Cow. (more…)

Living the Artist’s Life in Northfield

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

BarbMatzArtistThe NDDC’s special ArtSwirl edition of the Downtown Forum is titled “Living the Artist’s Life in Northfield”.  It features a panel of four local artists discussing their experiences working in our community.

Barb Matz, Jennifer Wolcott, Nick Sinclair, and Shari Setchell will discuss their art, why they located in Northfield, how the Northfield community is supportive of artists, and what the community might do to provide greater support for artists.  Some people have suggested that it is a conversation that is long overdue.

The NDDC Forum will be held Tuesday, August 11th, 8 a.m., in the Riverview Conference Room of the historic Archer House, 212 Division Street.  As always, the Forum is free and open to the public.

Coffee and cookies will be served.
