Fireworks Mark Busy Weekend in Downtown

Yes, fireworks have returned to downtown.  This year, courtesy of Butler’s Steak & Ale, the Contented Cow, Chapati, and Pan Pan, there will be fireworks in Ames Park, followed by fireworks in Sechlar Park.  There is, however, much more than fireworks going on in downtown this Independence Day weekend.

Thursday, July 1st, New Beginnings – A Farewell Exhibit, 4 to 7 p.m., ArtOnWater Gallery, Young People’s Theater: History/Misstory, 5:30 p.m., ARTech School, Northfield Community Bank Concert, 7 p.m., Bridge Square, Chris Herriges, 8 to 11 p.m., Tavern Lounge, Study Hall, 9 p.m., Contented Cow, and Karaoke at Froggy Bottoms. Rice County Habitat Reaches Out to Women-Owned Businesses

We received an invitation from the Rice County Habitat for Humanity to local, women-owned businesses.  They are looking for a variety of forms of business community participation, from product donations to elbow grease, for their current homes. (more…)

JuneBug Music Fest to Score the Weekend

The 3rd Annual JuneBug Festival of Music will provide the score for this weekend.  From Wednesday through Saturday, there will be the sound of Minnesota Music in the air of downtown.

Wednesday, June 23rd, it’s Carey Langer, 5 p.m., New Moon Trio, 8 p.m., and the Peter Ricke Trio, 11 p.m., at the Contented Cow and The Bratlanders, 8 to 11 p.m., at the Upstairs Rueb’N'Stein. (more…)

Bad Weather Blues Behind Us, On to Taste of Northfield Day Two

Last night’s weather really didn’t get much better.  It was probably a good thing that the Police Department  “advised” the NDDC Board to shut down and send folks to shelter.  Nevertheless, you can see that NDDC Board Member Jessica Paxton and I were not happy about the turn of events.

Fortunately, this year there’s another day of the Taste of Northfield.  And today, the weather is supposed to be just fine. (more…)

Start Your Weekend with a Taste of Northfield

Yes, it’s the 5th Annual Taste of Northfield.  This year there’ll be will two days of food and fun, Thursday, June 17th, and Friday, June 18th, 4 to 10 p.m., right in the heart of our community…Bridge Square, in historic, scenic, authentic Downtown Northfield.

Thursday, June 17th (day one of the Taste), it’s Anna Balfany, 4 p.m., Carey Langer, 4:15 p.m., Northfield Community Band, 6 p.m., the James-Younger Gang Bank Raid Re-enactment, and a Street Dance with Over and Back…all on the Showmobile, along with Silent and Live Auctions (both culminating at 7:30 p.m.).   Also in downtown, Joe Carey, 8 to 11 p.m., Tavern Lounge and Toaster Fork at the Contented Cow.

Friday, June 18th (day two of the Taste), it’s Anna Balfany, 4 p.m., NAG Mexican Folkloric Dance Ensemble, 4:30 to 5:00 p.m., Potluck and the Hot Dishes, 5:00 to 5:45 p.m., The Lost Boyz Crew (breakdancers), 5:45 to 6:30 p.m., The Bratlanders, 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., the RCAs, 8:00 to 10:00 p.m., and the big Raffle Drawing at 9 p.m.   (more…)
