NDDC Board Visits ECO Gardens

NDDC Board Members visited with Howie and Jeni Holt of eco gardens recently and got the full tour.  It’s really amazing what they’ve done with the old Tires Plus site.

As part of the founding family of Mother Earth Gardens in South Minneapolis, they have over a decade of experience in the business.  They sold the business a few years ago, eventually moving to an old farmstead west of Northfield. After seeing the vitality of our historic commercial district, they decided to get back in the garden store businesses. (more…)

NDDC Welcomes The Measuring Cup

NDDC President Greg Kneser and I visited The Measuring Cup after a recent lunch meeting, and almost literally ran into NDDC Board Member Mark Quinnell.  It was the day after their Grand Opening, the place was packed, we didn’t want to take too much of their time, and so I promised to stop back another day to finish the conversation. Great Downtowns Don’t Just Happen

It was recently pointed out to us by a friend and advisor, also known as a committee member, that we’ve been so busy letting folks know “What’s Happening” downtown each weekend, supporting preparation efforts for the rising river, and leading the charge to Save Our Post Office, that we forgot to mention that we recently kicked off our annual Partnership Campaign.  Sound the trumpets! NDDC Board Visits Rare Pair

The NDDC Board’s most recent monthly business visit was to the Rare Pair.  With NDDC Board member Mark Quinnell and Rare Pair Owner Krin Finger, it was like Old Times at Northfield High.

Krin would seem to be pretty happy with Northfield.  She grew up here, married her high school sweetheart (first date was at The Grand when it was  movie theater), is raising a family here, and has owned and operated the Rare Pair for twenty years. (more…)

NDDC Board Visits Northfield Arts Guild

The NDDC made its first visit to a non-profit organization as part of the business visit program; the board visited the Northfield Arts Guild.  It may be a little out of the ordinary, however, NDDC board members realize that strengthening our community requires more than creative business development; non-profit and civic organizations also add vibrancy and vitality to our local economy.
